Strictly Silk At Home: April Edition

Strictly Silk presents the #SSAtHome April Edition, focusing on the theme of community conversations and care in sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), capturing snapshots of many diverse truths from different angles, and exploring some of what we have to offer one another as support.

Because of the subject matter, it may be challenging content to engage with, and we do have to share an overall trigger warning as regards discussions abuse, harm and violence, towards all women (cis, trans, heterosexual, LBQ+ identifying, etc), as well as towards gender non-conforming and nonbinary people. However, we chose a focus on honesty amongst ourselves, healing and being survivor-centered, and we think that this way of talking about SGBV within our communities and in public is essential. This is especially needed to separate from mainstream misogynistic, queerphobic norms, which are a form of violent abuse in and of themselves.

We worked with amazing several women and non-binary folk to present a week’s worth of offerings: video presentations written and performed by the LAM Sisterhood; social media takeovers by Adelle Onyango (Instagram), Kiko Enjani (Twitter) and Esther Kazungu (TikTok); an insightful article by Yvonne Oduor; and a selection of chill music by our very own DJ Atiani! We look forward to spending this week with you all.
