Strictly Silk At Home: (March) Premiere Edition!

#SSAtHome featured a week full of incredible offerings, from several new and old SS favs, to celebrate International Women’s Day!

Day 1 kicked off with a wonderful conversation between Kenyan political actors and luminaries, Martha Karua SC and Scheaffer Okore, where they discussed everything from the status of women in the kenyan political space, to their hopes for the country's growing political space, their favourite music and so much more! Our very own Wakiuru Njuguna wrote a very insightful article for day 2 titled ‘Women and Finances: Intentional Investing.” The article explores key systemic issues that affect how women deal with money, the gendered inequality in the distribution of resources and much more.

Our day 1, DJ Coco Em held it down on day 3, via a fun amapiano mix that featured sounds from Mapara A Jazz, Massive D, Busiswa, Focalistic and others! Day 4’s offering was a 3-part podcast conversation with three incredible women community leaders; Lizzie Kiama of This-Ability, Lorna Dias of GALCK, and Barbra Wangare of EATHAN. Hosted by our very own Dr. Njoki Ngumi, the three women shared many insights, discussing how they got started in community work and leadership, their experiences with personal burnout and organisational challenges, and ending with what has been healing for them, and what has enabled them to grow.

We wrapped our IWD edition on Day 5, with a fire all-women mix from another day 1 SS fave, DJ Miss Ray! The mix featured sounds from Suzziah, Cece Sagini, Lady Donli and many more!

Catch Martha and Scheaffer’s conversation here and Wakiuru Njuguna’s “Women and Finances: Intentional Investing” article here. Listen to the 3 part podcast conversation and enjoy DJ Coco Em and DJ Miss Ray mixes here on our mixcloud page!
