Material Languages: Sunny Dolat Presents ‘Nandi Flame’

Nairobi-01 (1).jpg

Our very own Sunny Dolat has been undertaking an original textile exploration, which he has titled ‘Nanga’, exploring 3 interesting and very different elements: ritual textiles, contemporary African textiles and sustainable textiles. We’re incredibly excited to present his first launch from Nanga: A print named 'Nandi Flame', illustrated by graphic designer and illustrator Monica Obaga, and inspired by the ubiquitous and lovely Nandi Flame tree, also commonly known as the African Tulip tree.

Nandi Flame is a light, slightly transparent crepe chiffon in a pale pink colourway, featuring the Nandi flame blossoms in their trademark stunning orange, juxtaposed alongside slate grey hummingbirds, with twigs and blossoms in rosier, more playful shades, for a breezy and whimsical finish. This delicate summer fabric—with a gorgeous drape!—is at its best when used in scarves, summer shirts, kimonos, special occasion dresses, and more!

A limited first run of Nandi Flame is available for purchase (@ KES 600 per metre) in Nairobi at The Textile Loft in Westlands, on the 6th floor of Kipro Center on Sports Road. Do call The Textile Loft at +254717048713 to inquire and order (and they also deliver!), as well as for more details.
